Harrogate hairdresser Lauren Hewitt-Dawson, 30, is taking part after successfully completing a number of 10k runs. She will raise money for London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Lauren said: “I’ve done a number of 10K runs but have never done a half marathon before. I have been following a training programme and am going out running two or three times a week to prepare.”

And Beckie Plant, who suffers with Ulcerative Colitis, is taking part despite the fact she is still recovering from her latest surgery.

She said: “. I have already achieved and gone beyond my fundraising target which is fantastic. Now its all about preparing myself mentally and physically for the day. I am going to be pushing my body to its absolute limit. Strictly speaking, I am still recovering from my last surgery, so this is a massive challenge and I am really grateful for the support of the people of Harrogate.”

Jacqui Hall, Gale Filburn and Alison Ward are entering on behalf of Martin House Hospice.

Chris Lawrence and Neil Jones will run for Cancer Research UK.
