An incredibly big-hearted six-year-old Harrogate girl has done her bit to bring cheer to people less fortunate this Easter during the coronavirus outbreak - though in a slightly unusual way.

Darcie Wason, who goes to Hookstone Chase Primary School in normal times, decided to spend 24 hours in the car boot of her mum and dad's car to raise money to buy Easter eggs for Harrogate Hospital and Harrogate Food bank.

Super-proud parents Nicola and Paul Wason, who live on Stonefall Avenue, said their daughter's kind-spirited act was spur of the moment and completely unexpected.

Mr Wason said: "While Darcie's mum and I were cleaning the car last Friday morning, she suddently announced that she wanted to do a 24-hour challenge.

"So off she went back into the house, packed a bag with snacks, teddies and drinks and came back to the car and said she wanted to stay in the car boot for 24 hours!

"It was all Darcie's idea and very spur of the moment, so we were not prepared with a JustGiving page or even a charity to help.

"I think if we had these measures in place she may of raised even more money to help."

In the event, after spending an entire day and night in the boot of the family car, with supervision and meals courtesy of mum and dad, Darcie emerged safe and well, mission accomplished.

The six-year-old's efforts raised £203 and her local Morrisons store then offered to chip in with another ten per cent.

As a result, Darcie managed to buy a whopping 293 Easter eggs.

Having donated 130 of her chocolate egg haul to Morrisons Food Bank, Darcie and her parents are now waiting to give the rest to Harrogate Hospital.
