The event on New Year's Eve, coordinated and hosted by local Harrogate-based cycling events company Struggle Events, invites all local cyclists to tackle a 33 mile route or 55 mile route. The entry fee to take part is simply unwanted Christmas gifts, food and clothes.

Items will be taken to the Harrogate Homeless Project to help collect essentials needed by the charity this winter. Items include non-perishable food, clothes and useful personal items such as toiletries and cleaning products to help support their vulnerable users.

Mikey Kay, Hostel Work at the of the Harrogate Homeless Project said: ‘Donations of food, toiletries, cleaning products and clothing would ensure that we at the Harrogate Homeless Project can continue to provide the best level of service that we possibly can for our service users.

"We use these items between the hostel, where we support 16 residents who live here, and at our day centre, where we provide hot meals, support and washing facilities to street homeless and vulnerably housed individuals.

"We would truly appreciate any help and donations that we receive and would like to thank you for thinking of us.”

Victoria Tremlin, director of Struggle Events said: “Last Christmas the cycling community raised £237.80 for the Harrogate Homeless Project.

She said: "We hosted a fun evening that brought local cyclists together off our bikes. We’re hoping we can go a step further this year by gathering together as many items as we can that the charity needs during the coldest winter months.”

Struggle Events was founded by bike-obsessed Harrogate couple Matt Mannakee and Victoria Tremlin.

Struggle Events draws upon extensive experience in organising cycling events and couples this with passion for cycling to create top-quality cycling events for cyclists - by cyclists.

They are on a mission to "encourage cyclists to pedal further, explore their capabilities and escape their comfort zone, while showcasing beloved Yorkshire as a beautiful but brutal place to ride a bike."

Struggle Events would like to encourage as many cyclists of all abilities to join them on December 31 at 9am on Cold Bath Road.

Riders cycling to the start can bring items in a rucksack, which will be stored for them while out on the route.

Monetary donations, however small, will also be collected if riders don’t have suitable items to donate.
