In his moving video, Karl heaps praise on all the incredible staff at Harrogate hospital who work round-the-clock to keep us safe.

He said: "I'd just like to say that whatever your job is in the Harrogate hospital, you're all amazing, every single one of you, and I'd like to thank you for helping to save my life. So please, stay safe."

In sharing Karl's video, Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust said: "We are so pleased to hear from Karl - our first patient who has been on a ventilator as a result of having COVID19 and now discharged home. He, along with a lovely labrador, has shared this message of thanks to #teamHDFT. #coronavirus #COVID19 #NHSCovidHeroes #NHS #harrogate."

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust shared the uplifting news last week that 51 of Harrogate District Hospital's inpatients have recovered from coronavirus and been discharged, as of April 16.

In sharing the news, the Trust paid tribute to its extraordinary healthcare teams and all staff who are working round-the-clock behind the scenes to make this statistic a positive reality, stating: "Thank you to all of our incredible HDFT colleagues #ThankyouNHS.

The total number of deaths at Harrogate hospital as a result of coronavirus now stands at 32, according to the latest figures from NHS England.
