Supermarket opening times: Here is what you need to know for stores in Harrogate, Ripon and Knaresborough

With the Harrogate district now adjusting to life in lockdown, special measures have been introduced to help everyone get access to the essential items that they need from supermarkets.

Some stores have brought in special opening times for the elderly, hired more staff to stock shelves and put limits on the amount of items shoppers can buy.

And alongside this, some supermarkets have also started introducing similar “golden hours” for NHS staff, upon presenting their NHS ID.

Aldi

Both Harrogate and Ripon's Aldi stores will open from 8am. However, they will now close at 8pm to allow time for product replenishment. Sunday's opening hours remain unchanged, at 10am to 4pm.

Asda

Harrogate's Asda store on Bower Road is open between 8am and 8pm from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, the times are 10am to 4pm.

It will also be prioritising NHS workers from 8am to 9am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Asda CEO, Roger Burnley, said: “We all have a clear responsibility to look after each other during this crisis, particularly our most vulnerable groups.

“I was heartened to see how our customers respected this priority access and am proud to be able to extend it to more regular days and also include our amazing NHS colleagues who can access our stores with a little more ease.”

Morrisons

The supermarket will open its Harrogate and Ripon stores between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Saturday.

It has introduced an NHS hour at all of its stores on those same days from 7am to 8am.

On Sundays, it is open from 10am to 4pm.

A statement from the supermarket chain said: “It is really important that we stick to this to help support out vital services at a time when they are going to need us the most.”

Lidl

The supermarket's Knaresborough branch opens at 8am to 8pm, prioritising elderly shoppers for the first hour.

Sunday's opening times still stand at the usual 10am to 4pm.

Tesco

Express stores in Harrogate and Knaresborough have slightly different opening times.

In Harrogate, it is 6am to 10pm everyday, whilst in Knaresborough it is 7am to 10pm.

Sainsburys

Stores will now be open from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday, with Sunday opening times staying the same at 10am to 4pm.

Sainsbury's Local stores have changed their opening times, with Harrogate's Cold Bath Road, Kings Road, Leeds Road and Knaresborough's store opening from 7am to 9pm everyday.

All Sainsbury's stores have priority for NHS staff between 7.30am and 8am Monday to Friday, and special hours for the elderly, disabled people and carers is 8am to 9am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Waitrose

The supermarket is open 8am to 8pm, Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, it is 8am to 9pm.

And Sunday's times remain the same at 10am to 4pm.
