Reduced rail services in Harrogate to help key workers

Train services in Harrogate have been scaled back with a focus on the district's key workers - as passenger numbers continue to dwindle during the second week of lockdown.

Northern Rail - which is now under government control - has announced amended timetables designed to keep key workers on the move, with more services added in some areas to better help people get where they need to be.

Its services from Harrogate Train Station run on Leeds and York lines - and remain in place for key workers only.

The government advice to everyone else is stay at home - unless your journey is essential.

A spokesperson for Northern Rail said: "Everyone at Northern is working to provide the best possible rail service during this difficult time, but it is simply not possible to operate our usual timetable.

"Where we are not able to run trains, we will seek to provide rail replacement road transport.

"We will continue to do all we can to keep key workers on the move and hope you will also continue to play your part by only travelling on Northern services when it is absolutely necessary."
