The new service is available to those with underlying conditions which mean they are at additional risk from the virus.

Earlier this week, the NHS wrote to an estimated 1.5m people to warn them that they were extremely vulnerable to the illness and should stay home for at least 12 weeks.

A new service allows the most vulnerable residents to apply for extra support during lockdown.

This included those with underlying health conditions, as well as the elderly, and included advice on social distancing and isolation.

Alongside this, the government have now launched an online registration system for those who may need additional assistance, such as prescription deliveries, during the ongoing lockdown.

The new registration system is open to everyone in England, regardless of if they have been contacted by the NHS.

A notice on the website reads: "Register if you have a medical condition that makes you extremely vulnerable to coronavirus. For example, you’ll be able to ask for help getting deliveries of essential supplies like food.

"If you’re not sure whether your medical condition makes you extremely vulnerable, register anyway.

"This service is free. You can register yourself, or for someone else."
