After hearing that many hospitals around the country are running short of personal protective equipment (PPE), the school has given Harrogate District Hospital 200 pairs of safety glasses normally used by pupils and staff during science lessons.

David Normanshire, head of science, said: “Each and every one of us owes a huge debt of gratitude to all the NHS staff working around the clock doing amazing things, and in particular those caring for patients in Harrogate District Hospital.

“A huge number of Ashville staff, pupils, parents and alumni joined in Thursday’s ‘Clap for Carers,’ and now we are able to show our support and appreciation in a more practical way.”

Richard Marshall, Headmaster of Ashville College, added: “On hearing about a shortage of PPE in hospitals around the country, we contacted Harrogate District Hospital offering them all the protective glasses we have.

“I’d much sooner they were being used, now, by staff in our local hospital, rather than being sat in a cupboard for the foreseeable future.

“While Ashville may be physically closed, it doesn’t stop us from supporting the community that we have been proud to be a part of for over 140 years.”
