Harrogate Hospital reports another coronavirus-related death

NHS England figures show a patient who tested positive for the virus died at the hospital on Thursday.

The death takes the hospital's toll up to 89 and is the fifth to be announced in just under two weeks.

It comes as the hospital has reported an increasing number of Covid admissions with 24 patients currently receiving emergency treatment – an increase of eight on last week.

Harrogate has also seen another record rise in daily cases and its weekly infection rate continues to climb above the national average.

The weekly rate is 268 cases per 100,000 people, compared to the national average of 236.

The death reported today was one of 41 across Yorkshire's hospitals.

The total number of Covid-related deaths in England now stands at 34,091.
