Dr Lincoln Sargeant, North Yorkshire's director of public health, last week said the number of new cases in the county is currently around five per day.

This was a slight increase on the previous week which saw around three new cases per day.

Dr Sargeant previously said a "significant proportion" of the cases have been linked to routine testing in care homes, small outbreaks in workplaces and transmission within households.

He added: "Although the number of cases remain lower in North Yorkshire than in some of our surrounding areas, it is still vitally important that people continue to follow advice on social distancing, frequent hand-washing, and staying at home if you - or anyone you live with - has symptoms to prevent any wider spread of infection."

Meanwhile, the mobile coronavirus testing service will be back in Harrogate on Friday for anyone showing symptoms to get tested.

The drive-through facility will be set up at the town's Old Education Offices on Ainsty Road and people have been warned to not just turn up but make an appointment first.

There are two ways to do this depending on which testing group you are part of.

Anyone who is showing coronavirus symptoms should register for a test on the NHS website at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

People who do not have access to the internet, or who have difficulty with the digital portals, can ring the 119 service to book.

Key workers and members of their household should register for a test on the government website at www.gov.uk/apply-coronavirus-test-essential-workers.

Tests can be booked from 8pm the night before.
