The figures show 41 people who tested positive for the virus were in hospital on April 23 and 24 - the highest number they have recorded in the pandemic so far.

A peak in the number of coronavirus cases being treated at the hospital is clear throughout April, soaring from 18 on the first two days of the month to 27 on April 3. More than 25 people occupied beds for the rest of the month at any one time, ranging up to 39 before hitting 41 for just two days.

The numbers began to decline in May, dropping to the teens throughout most of the month, and a rapid drop is evident from the end of June, when the number of Covid patients being treated at the hospital dropped below ten consistently.

In August, 11 consecutive days passed with no beds occupied by patients with the virus.

The numbers have started to creep up again slightly in recent weeks, with seven patients recorded on September 24 and 25, but so far do not show any evidence of another peak at this time and have stayed consistently below ten once again.

Throughout the pandemic, 1,302 cases have been confirmed in the Harrogate district and 83 deaths have been confirmed at the hospital. 4,919 deaths have been recorded across the whole of Yorkshire and the Humber so far.

Although there is no evidence of a second peak at Harrogate District Hospital at this time, the latest figures do show Harrogate is one of the North Yorkshire areas with the highest rate of new cases in the last seven days.

North Yorkshire County Council is urging people to continue following the rules, tweeting: "Please wash your hands regularly, stay at least 2m apart & wear a face covering whenever that isn't possible."
