North Yorkshire Police has confirmed that large numbers of people are continuing to flock to beauty spots across the Harrogate district, despite the latest government advice during the coronavirus lockdown.

Angry residents have taken to social media to condemn their actions as 'selfish' and 'unbelievable,' and a Knaresborough police sergeant said officers have had to be deployed on multiple occasions to Fewston and Swinsty reservoirs to crack down on the issue.

There has also been reports of some barbecues and social gatherings.

Sgt Andy Graham tweeted: "We had a number of calls and officers had to be deployed to reports of large numbers of people at our beauty spots Fewston and Swinsty Reservoirs. The government advice is exercise from your house, not drive miles and park up to do it Thanks #SocialDistancing #StayHomeSaveLives."
