Harrogate PureGym has issued important information and advice for customers amid coronavirus fears in the town, including details of the precautions being taken by the gym itself.

Harrogate business took just £13.50 in one day as coronavirus fears take hold

PureGym has said they have increased the frequency of cleaning 'high touch areas' such as pin pads, door handles and lockers, and introduced new cleaning stations to allow members to self-clean equipment before and after use - amongst other measures.

In a statement, the gym said: "At PureGym, the health and safety of our members, colleagues and self-employed personal trainers is of paramount importance. Like many businesses in the UK, we are closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and following the advice provided by the UK’s health authorities. In addition, we are working very closely with our industry governing body UK Active and other gym operators in the UK.

"We wanted to update you on the actions we are taking to keep you safe and how you, our members, can keep yourselves and others as safe as possible while enjoying the opportunity to train and stay fit and healthy."

Full breakdown of the measures PureGym has taken:

- Increased the frequency of cleaning and the focus on hygiene management.

- Increased the frequency of cleaning high touch areas such as pin pads, door handles, lockers etc

- Redoubled efforts to ensure that soap dispensers remain filled in all changing rooms and toilet facilities

- Increased the number of hand sanitisers and ensured they are refilled frequently - these are typically located near the entrance / exit PODs to the gym

- Introduced new cleaning stations in all gyms, to allow members to self-clean equipment before and after use

- Continued to remind members of the importance of good hygiene in the gym

- Advised all colleagues and self-employed personal trainers on what to do when returning from foreign travel, in line with the recommendations of UK health authorities.

PureGym's advice as to how members themselves can help:

- Frequent hand washing (wash your hands for 20 seconds) and hand sanitising during your visits

- Making full use of the soap, sanitisers and cleaning items available

- Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and dispose of the tissue in the bin after use

- Familiarise yourself with the latest Government guidance and do not visit the gym if you are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 and are advised to self-isolate

- Follow Government guidance if you are a returning traveller
