Harrogate hospital coronavirus death toll reaches 140 as infection rate continues to fall

The coronavirus death toll at Harrogate hospital has risen to 140 after four more deaths were confirmed over the weekend.

NHS figures show three Covid-related deaths were reported by the hospital on Friday and one on Sunday.

It comes after the number of virus patients at the hospital reached another record high on Friday when 65 people were receiving treatment for Covid-19.

Speaking at the time, a Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson said: "This is the highest it has ever been since the start of the pandemic. It is therefore vital that we all stay at home as much as possible and go out for essential reasons only.

"Our staff are working incredibly hard to care for these patients but they need your help to prevent the further spread of infection."

Meanwhile, the seven-day infection rate in Harrogate has fallen again to 151 cases per 100,000 people. That is below the national average of 211.

The ward areas in Harrogate with the highest number of cases in the last seven days are Killinghall and Hampsthwaite (32), Ouseburn, Hammerton and Tockwith (25) and Starbeck (20).
