Students have a Nice day as they look to their futures

Each year students at Nidderdale High School have six '˜drop down' days where they take part in a variety of extra-curricular activities.

Activities are planned for the NICE (Nidderdale Individual Currirulum Enrichment) days to enrich students’ social, moral and spiritual well-being and build skills for life outside school.

The wide and varied programme involves all students from years 7 to 11 each day follows a different theme.

In October the theme of the day was Health where all pupils took part in a Restart a Heart workshop where they learnt the lifesaving skills of CPR from British Heart Foundation and volunteer paramedics. T

They also had a talk from a Homeless charity who spoke about the issues of homelessness, particularly related to mental health.

As a result students held a food appeal and collected 43 boxes which they donated to the Harrogate Homeless.

Among other activities have been financial workshops and autism awareness.

The penultimate day focussed on Our Community and Beyond where students held their own EU referendum and played trading games.

“These days are so important to us as a school,” said a spokesman.

“We believe they support us in preparing all our students for life in modern Britain and for teaching them to become tolerant, respectful and resilient individuals.”
