St's on pitch football successes hailed by school

The dedication shown by all students involved has been exceptional and the level of football across the area has risen once again, according to a school spokesman.

“Harrogate and Craven is undoubtedly the strongest area for schools football in the County and St Aidan’s has excelled in this thriving community.”

A few highlights this year have been:

The Year 7 team has only lost one match all season in the last 32 of the English Schools competition. They won the Area Cup with a dominant 3-0 win over a strong Rossett team and finished a magnificent fifth out of 1,600 schools in the English Schools indoor five-a-side competition.

And Year 8 got through to the Area and the County Cup semi-finals and were unlucky not to win one of those to make a final.

Success was gained by the Year 9 team who won the won the County Cup against a strong King James side.

They also made it to the last eight in country in the English Schools competition. They were on the wrong side of an Area Cup Final defeat to King James but a great season nonetheless.

The Year 10 team have made rapid progress with 30 lads turning up to training whatever the weather. They had great results against strong Bolton School and Leeds Grammar teams.

In their last year as a school side the Year 11 team made it to the last 32 in the English Schools competition and also the semi-final of the County Cup.

The highlight came in a 3-0 win in the Area Cup Final in their last match together.

The 1st XI also finished their school careers in style with an Area Cup win over Boroughbridge.

“It was a great occasion at Harrogate Town FC where the lads won 4-1,” added the spokesman. They had earlier made the County Cup semi finals.

“Well done to all the lads.”
