School of the Week: Starbeck Community Primary School
The school has two large buildings and a huge site with a playing field, as well as two playgrounds.
The school has a nursery which educates children from age three, and eight more classes for children up to 11 years of age.
Starbeck children have opportunities to participate in many extra-curricular activities. These include a choir and singing group, an African drumming team, orchestra and drama and running clubs.
The school reflects its “Community School” status by being involved with St Andrew’s and the Methodist churches, Starbeck in Bloom and is regularly supported by local shops and businesses. Children at Starbeck take part in a number of charity events including Children in Need, Comic and Sports Relief.
Highlights in the run-up to Christmas include performing at the International Centre, in the family Christmas concert, a staff pantomime and the “Advent Star Trail” at St Andrew’s.
The school has a school dog. Vito, who has been at the school since he was a puppy and who is much loved and cared for by all of the children.
