School of the Week: New Park Primary Academy, Harrogate
“We have a wonderful family spirit within the school and our children are fantastic,” he said.
“They have great attitudes to learning and develop a strong set of values that will help them throughout their lives.
“A great example of this is our recent sponsored bounce to raise money for Children in Need. The school raised over £1,000, which is amazing considering there are only 180 pupils.”
The school is part of the Northern Star multi-academy trust, which includes Hookstone Chase Primary and both Harrogate High School and Skipton Girls’ High School.
“A big part of our work at the moment is supporting the transition from year six to year seven so that children get the best start possible to their secondary school life,” Mr Tomlinson said.
At the other end of the age range the school’s reception pupils had a great 2016 achieving results well above the local and national averages.
“Most of our children begin their school lives in our nursery, which provides a safe and nurturing environment in which to learn before progressing on to the main school,” he said.
The school currently has places in all year groups and can offer not only the 15 hours funded care for nursery aged pupils but also additional paid sessions are available.
Alongside the before and after school club, a range of after school sports clubs are provided to further enhance the opportunities that children have to learn.
“Prospective parents are welcome to visit the school and experience the unique atmosphere here that makes it such a good place to grow up,” Mr Tomlinson said.
