School says thanks to supporter

The parents and friends of the school usually hold fundraising events every year such as a Summer BBQ, quiz nights and after school ice cream sales – all of which they have been unable to hold this year due to the Covid restrictions.

“Ken offered to help not only Staveley School but other local organisations in the village by providing his home-grown fruit, vegetables, plants and flowers for sale which he delivered to local people, assisted by the committee of FOSS, raising over £1000 for the school,” said a school spokesman.

“Ken has not only has given his time and produce but he also used to go in to school regularly to help the children with their garden, teaching them how to look after plants and flowers.

“In previous years he has generously held plant sales donating proceeds to local efforts and for many years has organised a 24-hour table tennis marathon which has raised over £100,000 for charities in the Harrogate area.”

Watched by the children of Class 2 at Staveley School, Ken turned on the Christmas lights kindly donated by Lightsf4fun.co.uk of Harrogate and he was presented with a plaque and a card made by the children.
