Rossett School prove maths prowess

Students at Rossett School have been demonstrating their Maths prowess in a UK-wide competition.

The school has a long history of entering the Senior Mathematical Challenge run by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT), and this year was no exception.

Students from Years 10, 12 and 13 took part, achieving 25 Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates.

Lauren Reynolds, lead teacher of T&L in Mathematics, said: “The students have once again done the Rossett Maths department proud in this year’s UKMT Challenge.

“They have performed spectacularly well and achieved lots of certificates to add to our UKMT legacy at Rossett.”

The Senior Mathematical Challenge is a 90-minute, multiple-choice competition aimed at students across the UK.

It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and techniques.

Ms Reynolds added: “The problems on the Senior Mathematical Challenge are designed to challenge students and stretch their thinking; most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience.

“Special mention goes to Katie Merckel, Lewis Ferry, Louis Schofield, Jayven Bahia and Karthik Krishnan from Years 12 and 13, who have qualified for the additional Kangaroo round. We wish them luck!

“We are also extremely proud of our Y10 students Yael Braunstein, Patrick Fleming and Nadia Othman, who all received a Silver certificate – an amazing achievement considering the competition is really aimed at older students.”
