New library for Bilton and Woodfield

The library, which was officially opened this week by the Vice Chairman of the County Council, Councillor David Jeffels, is the product of a hugely successful collaboration between the community and North Yorkshire County Council.

It provides a wide range of new books with a host of added attractions – ranging from free internet access to refreshment facilities.

County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, Executive Member for Library Services said: “This really is a marvellous tribute to the partnership between the county council and the community.

“It shows how together we can tackle the problem of providing excellent services which our communities value extremely highly, in the face of relentless financial pressures. What has been achieved here in Bilton and Woodfield is a shining example of the way forward.”

The new Community Library shares a site with Woodfield School and Bilton Children’s Centre.

As well as an extensive bookstock, it offers public computers with free internet access, a free Wi-Fi network for mobile devices and a separate area for children’s activities.

There is improved access for people with disabilities, including an accessible toilet and designated parking places.

“Whilst volunteers were sad to leave the old library, they are excited about the fantastic new facility and are enjoying welcoming existing and new customers of all ages,” said Greta Knight, Chairman of Bilton and Woodfield Community Library.
