Investment in Academy to be increased in future

Gorse Academies Trust, which operate the school say they have invested the sum to upgrade computer and projector provision within classrooms and a full refurbishment of the post-16 area including the creation of Elliott Hudson College Boston Spa.

A spokesman for the Trust said: “In addition to the investment made so far, the Trust is investing a further £2 million into the academy’s infrastructure over the next 30 months.

“The first wave of this investment will see the 11-16 catering provision and dining spaces completely refurbished and re-designed, the full refurbishment and re-design of two toilet provisions and further improvements to the 11-16 teaching spaces.

“In 2020-21 work will commence on the creation of the new Performing Arts Centre which will ensure that our students have a state-of-the-art facility in which to rehearse and showcase their incredible talents.

“Students at Boston Spa Academy are understandably very excited about the changes.”

The future of the school was controversially thrown into doubt in 2018 when the local authority was considering if the area could support two secondary schools.

A fierce campaign resulted in Boston Spa and Wetherby High being kept open, with the former subsequently being taken under the wing of Gorse Academies Trust after government permission.

The Gorse Academies spokesman added: “The school has undergone a huge shift since joining us and has repaid the government’s belief that this school would play a central role in the community as a source of good.

“It has shown it was the right decision not to close it.”

Mrs Rebekah Taylor will join Boston Spa Academy as Principal from September, having been Assistant and Vice Principal at Farnley Academy.
