A Harrogate Junior School teacher is in training for a charitable hitch-hiking mystery tour of Yorkshire next week (March 12) – where he will be accompanied by a fridge!

Ian Dimmick, from Ashville Junior School, who is undertaking the bizarre two-day challenge in aid of Comic Relief, hopes his adventure will raise plenty of laughs - and money - as he trudges around the region.

Setting off at 1pm on Thursday, March 12, Mr Dimmick will ask the public to name locations in Yorkshire, which can include prominent landmarks and tourist attractions, for him to reach and be photographed at, in exchange for sponsorship.

Planning to be back at his school at 3.45pm the following day, the school’s Educational Visits co-ordinator will be relying on social media to tee up lifts for him along his unplanned route.

And, once back at base, everyone whose location challenge was successful will get the opportunity to throw an egg at him! So the more places Mr Dimmick visits, the more the eggs that will be thrown at him upon his return.

Mr Dimmick said: “My inspiration for this challenge was the book ‘Round Ireland with a Fridge’, by the comedian Tony Hawks!

“I can honestly say I have never done anything like this before – and I don’t believe I will ever do anything like this again! It will be tough, but it’s for a really great cause.

“I have no idea where I will be going – that will be up to the people who are donating!

“Yorkshire is a very big county and it could be anywhere; from the top of Ingleborough to the coast at Filey! And wherever I go, so too will my fridge!”

Mr Dimmick added: “I’m already getting great support from colleagues, pupils and parents, and I hope it will raise a not insignificant sum for the charity.

“And, when it’s all over, I will have the dubious pleasure of having eggs thrown at me.”
