Harrogate district school rankings: See how your school performed

Queen Ethelburga's College has been named as the best school in the county for students scoring high GCSE results.

All 50 of the student's at the independent college achieved at least five A*-C grades including Maths and English in their summer 2015 exams.

The college was also named as the 43rd best in the country by the Telegraph for GCSE results according to figures released from the Department of Education released on Thursday.

Five other high schools in the Harrogate district also made it into the top 10 for North Yorkshire including Ripon Grammar School who were ranked fifth.

The community school recorded 95 per cent of their 111 students achieving grades A*-C including Maths and English.

Ripon Grammar School were one of just 257 schools in England that saw 90 per cent or more of their pupils achieving the coveted GCSE results in last year's exams.

St Aidan's Church of England High School, St John Fisher Catholic High School, Harrogate Grammar and Outwood Academy were all included in the top 10.

Boroughbridge High School and Northallerton College both fell below the national average of 57.1 per cent of pupils gaining five good GCSEs, including English and Maths.

Harrogate High School had the lowest GCSE results for the district with 50 per cent of pupils gaining five good GCSEs including English and Maths.

However, the school was still comfortably above those that are 'underperforming' with fewer than 40 per cent of pupils getting five GCSEs at A*-C, including English and Maths.

Coun Arthur Barker, executive member for schools, said: "I was pleased with the results for North Yorkshire yet again.

"It's a measure of the hard work of the staff and the pupils at our schools. The Harrogate schools in particular normally perform at a high level and this year is no exception.

"We are fortunate in North Yorkshire to have such attentive staff with our students. The county council is now aiming to have all our schools rated as good or outstanding.

"Currently, 87 per cent of our pupils are at good or outstanding schools and we will work with schools just below that to push them into this boundary.

"The results in the Harrogate district are very pleasing and our focus is to have all schools performing like this and we will work with them to help achieve this."

Ripon Grammar School also performed well for Key Stage 5 results with all their students attaining at least three A levels at A*-E and 37 per cent getting AAB or higher.

Ashville College also made it into the top 10 in North Yorkshire with 92 per cent of their students achieving at least three A level at A*-E and 30 per cent getting AAB or higher.
