As part of the event on Thursday October 16, the Resuscitation Council is sending every secondary school in the UK a DVD of Lifesaver - a live-action film that shows how to save someone’s life.

To support the delivery of this educational resource, dozens of life-saving staff at Yorkshire Ambulance Service have volunteered to visit schools and provide hands-on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training to pupils to boost the learning.

Organiser Jason Carlyon said: “Over 60,000 people suffer cardiac arrests outside of hospital in the UK every year. If this happens in front of a bystander who starts CPR immediately before the arrival of the ambulance, the patient’s chances of survival double.

“By linking with European Restart a Heart Day we will provide thousands of schoolchildren with the skills needed to save a life.”
