Little is known about the bidder, who called in to the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show charity auction on Monday, other than that he lives in Harrogate and is called David.

He has won a place on the Super Swing Package, and will tee off with some golfing greats including Graeme McDowell, Vassos Alexander and Luke Donald, as well as presenter Chris Evans.

Elsewhere in the town, preparations are underway for tomorrow’s Children in Need celebrations.

Children at Starbeck School are among those taking part, having won a huge box from the charity crammed with T-shirts, wristbands and pencils after entering a competition called ‘The Best Ever Assembly’. They are also to hold a cake sale.
