Ashville College in Harrogate is inviting prospective parents through its doors for an Open Morning on March 4.

The event showcasing the learning experience for pupils aged two to 18 is the first of its kind since it was listed at number 10 in The Sunday Times’ Parent Power league table of top 10 secondary independent schools in the north, for the very first time.

Parents are invited to explore the school via activities specially tailored to the next step in your child’s learning journey, whether it’s Ashville Acorns Pre-Prep for children aged two to five, Prep School for those aged five to 11, Senior School for 11 to 16-year-olds, or Sixth Form (16 to 18 years).

The event will include information about the curriculum, sports, performing and creative arts, plus academic and pastoral support.

Here are seven reasons why you should join the Open Morning on Saturday 4 March:

Tours led by current pupils

Often mentioned as a highlight by previous visitors, our pupil tour guides are our best ambassadors. Other than explaining the stops along the tour route, they are unscripted, and will tell you their honest views and experiences of Ashville. Feel free to ask them questions, such as about our Competitive House system, which sees pupils taking part in a diverse range of activities, learning life skills such as teamwork and creating lifelong memories.

Talks from senior leaders

A key event during the morning will be a speech from College Head, Mrs Rhiannon Wilkinson, in the Soothill Hall. She will be joined by our Heads of School, Fleur and Toby, who will give their unique insights into Ashville and what it can offer your child.

Discover our innovative programmes to optimise children’s potential

If you are a parent of a child in Reception to Year 6, you will hear about the Prep School’s pioneering Outdoor Learning programme. Further up the school, you’ll hear about how we get pupils ‘Future Ready’, which refers to our tailored programme that started in the Sixth Form and is now being rolled out to other Senior School year groups. This programme helps to prepare pupils for life beyond school, whether that’s university or the world of work.

Meet our holiday camp and parent engagement partners

Our partner Sporting Influence, which has just moved its base to Ashville, will share details of its holiday camps for children in Year 1 to Year 9, which start this February half-term. The New Friends of Ashville, our thriving parents’ association, will also be on hand to offer support, refreshments and a unique insight into being an Ashville parent.

How we go way beyond the classroom

Learn about our vigorous co-curricular programme. Ashville Seniors can choose from up to 100 different co-curricular activities each term, spanning sport, performing arts, creative arts, modern foreign languages, STEM subjects, and much more.

Next stop…University!

Having achieved our best ever A-Level results in 2022, 52% of our cohort went on to study at a Russell Group University. Success is never guaranteed, but we work hard to ensure that our pupils capitalise on the opportunities that are presented to them; more often than not leading to some of the very best institutions for higher education. You can meet our Sixth Form team to learn more about how we ensure our pupils are prepared for life beyond school.

A free lunch!

Should you choose to stay after you’ve completed your tour, you can enjoy a complimentary lunch in our recently refurbished dining hall, where our skilled catering team will serve up a delicious range of savoury and sweet dishes, and you can soak up the atmosphere of the busy dining room where our pupils eat during their school days. Bon Appetit!
