Green and orange beast heralds a run of 75 cars being put together in Oxfordshire

Last year, Porsche ‘re-imaginers’ Singer joined forces with Williams Advanced Engineering to build a modern version of Porsche’s classic 911 air-cooled flat-six engine. Stuffed with titanium and magnesium, the quad-cam 24-valve 4.0-litre Singer/Williams unit has hoisted the rev limit over 9000rpm and boosted power from the original engine’s 247bhp to a new figure of 500bhp. It runs through a Hewland magnesium six-speed transmission.

Now, there’s a car for that drivetrain, and a pretty damn special one it is too. The result of another Singer-Williams partnership in collaboration with Porsche Le Mans project genius Norbert Singer, the car’s body is made of carbon fibre, titanium, magnesium and aluminum and features an air-channelling roof and rear window inlets that feed air to the engine’s carbon fibre intakes.

The lightweight suspension system with custom dampers by EXE-TC rolls on 18-inch BBS forged magnesium centre-locking wheels and bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, with Brembo brake calipers and carbon composite discs.

The whole thing weighs under 990kg and the driving development work is being carried out by Marino Franchitti, brother of Dario, and Chris Harris of Top Gear. The detailing is nothing short of exquisite, with no attempt to stifle the glorious flat-six howl using door cards or carpets.

This particular car in Absinthe and Blood Orange will be taking up residence in the garage of Porsche collector Scott Blattner, but the good news is that there will be up to 75 more examples. And the even better news for Brits is that they’re going to be built at the ‘Singer at Grove’ facility on the Williams campus in Oxfordshire.

Now, the question you’re dying to know the answer to: how much? No hard info on that, sadly, but secondhand Singers have sold for over half a million pounds in the UK. This one is something else, in every sense. Our Scooby senses plus a bit of insider info suggests something in the region of $2 million (US). Plus there’s a three-year waiting list, so at least you’ll have plenty of opportunities to win some sort of lottery between now and then.
