With the rules of Lockdown 2.0 a touch gentler on businesses than the first one in March - to a degree - our new campaign, is designed to shine the spotlight on our vast array of local independent stores and traders still offering online, click and collect or takeaway services.

Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Jones said: “I am four-square behind the Harrogate Advertiser’s campaign to get people shopping locally during this second lockdown and afterwards.

Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Jones -"Our local recovery will depend on the survival and growth of our trademark independent shops.

"Our local recovery will depend on the survival and growth of our trademark independent shops.

"If you are buying online during lockdown see if you can buy it locally or whether your favourite shop in town is doing click-and-collect or your favourite café or restaurant is running a takeaway service.

"If you are shopping for Christmas presents why not hold off until 3 December and buy gifts in our town centres supporting local employment and local businesses?

“It’s tough for everyone at the moment but our local recovery will depend on the survival and growth of our trademark independent shops.”

Harrogate Borough Council leader Coun Cooper added “I would urge everyone during lockdown to order things online from a local shop.

“If it’s a cafe or food shop and it’s open for takeaways, then please continue to use it.”

Harrogate and Knaresborough Lib Dems said: “The Lib Dems will absolutely support the Harrogate Advertiser’s campaign.

“Independent local businesses are the bedrock of our communities; they are what make Harrogate special.

“Collectively we need to come together to support them by either buying from them now, when possible, and certainly in the future.

“At a national level, the Lib Dems will continue to lobby Government to make sure there is the right support for all levels of our local businesses to survive.”
