Track and Trace closes Harrogate butchers as customers praise shop for its decision

Customers are rallying round a leading Harrogate butchers today after it took the decision to close temporarily because of a Track & Trace result during lockdown for Covid.

The doors may be temporarily closed at award-winning Elite Meat Ltd on the High Street in Starbeck but it has posted a message on Facebook - as well as one on its window.

The message reads: "Morning everyone, some bad news for you this morning. The shop is closed today following contact from Track & Trace.

"We've also suspended online ordering pending results of staff testing.

"If you're expecting a delivery tomorrow (Saturday) you may find that this is delivered later today.

"We'll provide an update in due course.

"Thank you for you patience and understanding."

First opened in 1999, Elite Meat, which is a speciality grocery store, as well as a premium butchers, regularly wins top national awards.

In 2019 the shop was crowned the Best Family-Run Butchers in the UK and was also recognised in the Great Taste Awards.

The best shop accolade came in the UK Enterprise Awards, run annually by SME News Magazine and open to businesses across the nation.

Customers reacted with understanding and praise to the news of the temporary closure of Elite Meats today, posting messages of support, including "you’ve definitely done the right thing" and "hope you’re all ok, will be back when you can open again."
