Plans for new Lidl store in Ripon submitted to Harrogate Borough Council
Plans for a brand new Lidl store to be built at St Michael's Retail Park in Ripon have been submitted to Harrogate Borough Council.
The brand says the new store would have a sales area of 1,100 sq. m, and mark a multi-million pound investment, as well as create up to 40 new full and part-time jobs for the local economy.
St Michael’s Retail Park is prominently situated fronting Rotary Way and Ripon Bypass (A61).
The plans have been submitted following a period of public consultation, which Lidl says was very positive.
It is proposing to redevelop an existing unit into a vibrant new store which will deliver its fresh, affordable produce to local residents.
The £10 million retail park launched in July last year, when anchor tenant, M&S Foodhall opened its long-awaited store in the city.
Mark Rothery, Managing Director of Rothstone Estates, said: "I would like to thank everyone who took part in our consultation and we’re pleased with the positive response overall. The proposals represent a major investment in the city and will complement the M&S Foodhall.”
A spokesperson from Lidl GB said: “Many people have welcomed the proposed Lidl store, which would bring competition, increasing choice and providing a boost to the local economy through job creation.
"Many also mentioned that a store on this site would reduce the need to travel out of the city to shop and therefore keep expenditure in Ripon. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their support so far and we look forward to further sharing an discussing our plans with them.”
