The first affected is Swarovski jewellers.

The shop, which is located at 36 James Street, has a sign up saying "closing down owing to the lease termination - Swaprovski will cease trading fron this store."

Its windows are also whitened out.

The shop is part of a chain whose roots can be traced back to 1895 when its founder Daniel Swarovski built a reputation in crystal cutting.

The other shop affected in Harrogate town centre is Jessops whose lights were out today, Monday, February 3, and its shutters firmly shut.

The photography specialists, which are located at Unit 6 in Victoria Shopping Centre on Cambridge Street, have been a well-known name in Harrogate for decades, offering photographic expertise and a repair service, as well as camera equipment.

The window of the Harrogate branch today had a sign up saying "for any uncollected camera repairs or outstanding orders, please call our contact centre to arrange a direct service. Call 0344 800 4444."

"Any other enquiries, please contact your closest store."

Nationally, Jessops has experienced troubled times in recent years like many other high street names.

The business had previously entered administration in January 2013, with all 187 Jessops retail stores temporarily ceased trading for a short time until entrepreneur Peter Jones CBE stepped in to invest several million pounds into the company, forming Jessops Europe Limited.
