Local exporters make '¨fast sales ranking

Three companies from the Harrogate District have made it into this year's Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 league table, published at the weekend.

The annual index, now in its seventh year, ranks Britain’s mid-market private companies with the fastest-growing international sales.

There are six new entrants among Yorkshire firms, whose international sales have grown by an average of 38 per cent a year over two years to a total of £160m, and which together now employ 4,040 people.

Among Yorkshire’s new entrants is Harrogate-based High Street TV, which was founded in 2008 by serial entrepreneurs Andrew Malcher and Jim Coleman. The TV shopping channel claimed 12th place in the table after seeing exports grow by 133 per cent to £3.9m last year.

Making a third appearance in the league table is Tockwith-based Stage One Creative Services, which increased its international sales by 21 per cent to take 167th place in the ranking.

The company makes stage sets and scenic features for sporting and corporate events across the world, including the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony and the Baku 2015 European Games. International sales, which account for 85 per cent of its total sales, grew to £28.9m in 2015, boosted by contracts with customers such as Jaguar and Samsung.

Ripon Select Foods, a sixth-generation family firm employing 87 people in Ripon, took 185th place, after increasing export sales by 18 per cent to £2.8m.

Amanda Murphy, UK head of corporate banking at HSBC, which sponsors the ranking, said: “The Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 is a great reflection of the value of building connections overseas.

“The world is getting smaller and for ambitious businesses, the opportunities to source goods and services and to grow organically via international trade, digitally or on the ground, are easier than ever.”

Compiler Fast Track said more than three quarters of the companies (166) sell into Europe, the most popular market, followed by North America (108) and Asia (88).
