An historic year for Yorkshire tourism was capped off at the country’s biggest tourism awards staged at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate on Monday.

Almost 1,000 people were at the White Rose Awards dinner to see winners revealed across 16 categories.

Harrogate International Centre was named the winner of the Business Tourism sector, while Studfold, ‘The Nidderdale Experience’ won the award for Caravan Holiday Park and Holiday Village.

Highly commended were Prison and Police Museums, Ripon (Small Visitor Attraction), The Christmas Adventure at Stockeld Park, Wetherby (Tourism Event of the Year) and Camp Katur, Bedale (Caravan Holiday Park).

The awards are run by official tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire. Comperes were BBC Look North’s Harry Gration and Amy Garcia.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “It’s been an historic year for Yorkshire and our county’s profile as a destination has never been higher. Our awards are our way of recognising and celebrating how amazing our tourism businesses are and every single winner should be incredibly proud.

The awards were backed by leading businesses including Eviivo, Harrogate Spring Water, BBC Yorkshire, The Yorkshire Post, Keelham Farm Shop, Carat, Biffa, Yorkshire Beer & Pub Association, Irwin Mitchell, Bizzie Lizzie’s, Residence 6, Forest Holidays, NY LEP, Yorkshire RFU, Magna and Barclays.
