HSBC announces branch closures in Harrogate district
Hot off the heels off Yorkshire Bank closing their Knaresborough branch, another major bank has announced they will be making two branch closures in the Harrogate district.
Knaresborough banking customers will be affected again as HSBC told residents it would be closing its branch on High Street in the town.
The global company also said it would be closing it branch on Bridge Street in Boroughbridge.
The letter to customers in the affected areas said: "At HSBC, we regularly review our products and services including our branch coverage. The growth of telephone and internet banking in recent years has naturally resulted in some of our branches being used less often. Therefore after careful consideration, we have taken the difficult decision to close the following two branches."
The branches will permanently shut down their services from 2.30pm on October 14 later this year - leaving Ripon and Harrogate as the nearest alternative branches for affected customers.
Local resident and customer to the Knaresborough HSBC bank, James Monaghan, said: "I am disappointed that HSBC are closing this bank as it leaves yet another vacant unit on the High Street and comes quick on the heels of the Yorkshire Bank closure. I am concerned that HSBC won't be the last bank to close their Knaresborough branch.
"As a customer of HSBC I have been frustrated about the lack of services offered in the branch and most queries I have made were referred to telephone banking or the Harrogate branch. The staff have always been pleasant and helpful, so I hope they aren't losing their jobs. This may be the straw that finally makes me switch my bank account."
