Harrogate-based personal trainers James Bower, Paul Greaves and David Ward have pulled resources to create The Gym from Home, which now streams a full and varied timetable of live fitness classes online reaching hundreds of participants on a daily basis.

Qualified instructor James Bower said: "We were devastated by the news that our place of work, where we conducted our own personal training businesses, had to close.

"Our businesses were literally crippled overnight and income destroyed. It was a joint idea initially as a 'feel good' factor maintaining the physical health of our our clients.

"The whole concept grew from there developing the mental health and wellbeing aspects too with structure, the social interaction and sense of community.

"Its popularity has now exceeded our wildest expectations, generating over 800 followers on Facebook in only a matter of days."

The dynamic trio are used to working on their feet, rather than thinking, but the current pandemic required speedy action to fit the new normal.

James Bower said: "We had to think fast. Initially we had set up the online group to train our own clients, but soon realised the potential of The Gym From Home.

"Its popularity, not only as a fitness business model adapting to the new ‘normal’, has experienced the amazing sense of community and belonging that it’s platform has generated.

"Our members have expressed - and we have seen - the Mental health benefits they have experienced.
