Introduced to support the food and drink sector when it reopened after lockdown, customers at participating bars, cafes and restaurants have been enjoying a 50% discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in (up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner) every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday since August 3.

The successful scheme which has boosted takings, is scheduled to end next Monday, August 31.

But Provenance Inns & Hotels, which includes the West Park Hotel in Harrogate, now says it will be continuing the offer on Tuesday, September 1 and Wednesday, September 2 as part of the Yorkshire-based chain's tenth anniversary celebrations.

Provenance Inns & Hotels' managing director Karen French said: "As a token of our gratitude to customers, I am delighted to announce that we will be extending the “Eat Out To Help Out” offer beyond the Government's end date.

"It is our 10 year anniversary in September, and it seems fitting to kick off our celebrations with this thank you gesture.

"All the team have worked tirelessly to ensure that you have a pleasurable experience since we reopened and are kept safe at this challenging time.

"Thank you so much for visiting us in the month of August. Your support has been overwhelming, and I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of our entire team."

At a national level, The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is urging Chancellor Rishi Sunak to extend the scheme throughout September as businesses “enter a period of economic make or break”.

The move by Provenance Inns & Hotels is part of a trend by some restaurant chains such as Pizza Hut to extending the offer of discounted meals after it ends on August31 because of its popularity with diners, even though the eateries will have to cover the costs themselves.
