Harrogate Organics Company's faith in CBD and well-being products leads to shop opening

Despite being launched in the middle of a pandemic, two Harrogate entrepreneurs inspired partly by the developing market for CBD or cannabidiol products say their new well-being business is perfectly timed.

Founded by Dan Simpson and Andy Burrows, Harrogate Organics Company aims to become the world’s leading provider of well-being products in general, not merely CBD ones which use a chemical compound from the Cannabid sativa plant; a naturally occurring substance that's used in products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm.

With the firm's new shop set to open in Harrogate this weekend, the business duo say they may have had the idea before Covid-19 swept the world but they believe the need to support people during tough times and relax had become greater than ever.

Co-founder and director of Harrogate Organics Company, Dan Simpson said: "“We’re on a mission to show people the amazing power of pure, natural and organic ingredients."

"We came up with the idea for the brand at the end of last year, so before Covid-19 really took hold in the UK.

"It feels slightly odd launching a business during a global pandemic, but we truly believe that our brand couldn’t be any more relevant and needed right now.

"Everything we do is meticulously considered, from our recycled and recyclable packaging which is compostable in a consumer’s own garden, to the personalised notes on every order that goes out. We hope to bring some healing to people during these uncertain times.”

The Harrogate Organics Company shop will open its doors at 3 Station Square for the first time this Saturday after an online launch last month selling well-being essentials from candles and skincare to 100% organic and vegan-friendly products cannabidiol (CBD) products.

The pair say demand for well being products in general has soared during the Covid-19 pandemic.

New research suggests that 8 million Brits are now buying CBD products, spending in excess of £150m in the first four months of 2020 alone.

The industry is on target to achieve 50% growth on last year.

Harrogate Organics Company's co-founder Dan Simpson said, though demand was growing, there were still too many 'gimmicks' in the industry.

Mr Simpson said: “Now more than ever, people are seeking out natural, organic ways to relax and rejuvenate as they navigate this new normal we’re living in.

"We spotted a gap in the market for a well-being platform that provides more than high quality skincare and aromatherapy, but also brings CBD and nutrition into the fold.

"It’s no surprise that consumers are turning to CBD during these times as an alternative way to fulfil their well-being needs.

"We firmly believe in the power of CBD, want to clean up it’s image and help people who might be considering its benefits.

"There’s a lot of gimmicks in the CBD industry and we’re here to change that.”

The firm's website calls for the increased regulation of the CBD industry.

It says: "At Harrogate Organics Company, we take regulation seriously and actively encourage it in the CBD market space.

"More regulation, improved quality of regulation and heightened oversight can only lead to better quality products, more innovation, and reliability for the end user.

"That's why we can confirm that Harrogate Organics Company has been awarded certification by Cannabis Professionals, the trade association for the UK’s cannabis, CBD and hemp businesses.

"Certification is based on evaluation of our products, trading standards, and marketing."

Harrogate Organics Company says it is one of the few businesses to provide 100% pure, certified organic CBD products, meaning it is fit for vegans and independently lab tested, guaranteeing consistency, purity and potency.

And the two ambitious entrepreneurs believe Harrogate itself provides fertile ground for their brand of well-being.

Mr Simpson said: “Harrogate is the home of well-being. It’s Britain’s original spa town and is regularly voted one of the country’s happiest places to live.

"Where better to launch a well-being brand to inspire people to lead a happy and healthy life?

“95% of our suppliers are from Harrogate too, as we’re passionate about the benefits of our local products as well as reducing our carbon footprint."
