The decisive factors in the recovery of business are the number of Brits holidaying at home and Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s “Eat Out to Help Out” subsidies, says The DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa.

In particular, the Government’s subsidised dining out scheme, running every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during August, has resulted in a bumper number of people eating-in during its first week.

With more than half of the month still to go, the hotel is confident of enjoying a bumper August.

Double Tree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa General Manager Andy Barnsdale said: “Coronavirus struck the hospitality and leisure particularly hard, but I’m delighted to say we are starting to see light at the end of this very long and dark tunnel.

“Our occupancy is sky high at the moment, and we are on track to better August last year, which is just incredible. The Eat Out to Help Out scheme has also proved a real winner too.

“In the first three days hundreds of diners took advantage of the discount offered by the scheme.

"And we are predicting another busy three days this week and again during the following two weeks.”

In order to comply with social distancing measures, the 184-bed Victorian hotel has also introduced a number of new dining experiences within its Frederick’s Piano Bar and Lounge, and alfresco dining on its extensive terrace overlooking the manicured gardens.

General Manager Andy Barnsdale who officially took over the GM role in June, added: “Harrogate is a fantastic place to visit for either business or a holiday, and it’s this popularity that I believe will help the town recover in the long run.

Mr Barnsdale said: “There was a fantastic buzz in the town this weekend, with plenty of people out and about taking advantage of the hot weather.

“And. while the continued closure of the Convention Centre is a cause for concern, we are looking forward to being able to host events and meetings again. Next year’s diary is already filling with functions, many postponed from earlier this year, which is very encouraging.”
