The Kimberley Hotel on King's Road has announced it will not be reopening.

A post on its website reads: "After 13 years working together, it comes with a heavy heart , that we have to tell all our Loyal Guests and Friends that due to the financial position caused by Covid-19 we have to close the hotel.

"We sincerely thank everyone, customers and staff alike that have supported us over the years and regret deeply that Covid-19 placed us in a situation that we cannot recover from."

The news comes as B&Bs and guest houses across the district have called for more support to help them survive what will inevitably be a difficult winter.

As Harrogate is currently under Tier 2 restrictions, hotels are allowed to open but guests can only travel with those in their household or support bubble, and accommodation providers say they have seen a sharp decline in bookings compared to previous Decembers.

With Harrogate Convention Centre, which sits on the same road as the Kimberley Hotel, currently being used as a Nightingale hospital and Harrogate Christmas Market no longer taking place this year, hoteliers are expecting a much quieter winter than usual.

The Kimberley Hotel says all enquiries should be directed to insolvency company Booth & Co.
