Harrogate business confirms 'likelihood of redundancies'

The energy business, which has been running for more than 25 years and is the largest independent shipper of gas in the UK, is a key employer in the town.

Today, its Chief Executive Officer, Paul Stanley, told the Harrogate Advertiser that a number of redundancies are likely at the company in order to operate more 'efficiently' and at a lower cost.

He said: “CNG is a leader among independent energy firms, with a proud 25 year history of growth and innovation. My role is to ensure that this continues long into the future.

"The industry has been through challenging times over the last two years and like many other firms in the sector CNG has had to review strategy and cost base to take into account the impact of those challenges.

"Having conducted an in depth review of our market position we understand that we have to operate more efficiently and from a slightly lower cost base. Inevitably, part of that is the likelihood of a limited number of redundancies.

"I understand that this is disappointing and upsetting for many of the wonderful people inside our company and that it also has an impact on our local community.

"I intend to be completely transparent, working personally and directly with the whole team to offer support and advice in order to minimise the impact to all individuals affected by these changes. We remain committed to being a major employer in Harrogate and returning the business to profitable growth in partnership with our local stakeholder community.”
