Harrogate Aldi turns gold to celebrate Jack Laugher's Olympic heroics

Olympic hero Jack Laugher will now have his very own golden checkout at Aldi's Harrogate store to match his Rio Gold Medal.

After winning Team GB's first ever diving gold medal on Wednesday alongside Chris Mears, Jack Laugher has become the talk of the country.

Tributes have poured in for the 21-year-old since clinching the gold with Transdev even announcing one of their iconic 36 buses will be renamed in his honour.

Harrogate's newly opened Aldi store has now followed suit by transforming one of its checkouts gold in honour of the 21-year-old diver.

Customers will be able to revel in the gold medal checkout from August 18 and Aldi's Tony Baines said he was excited to be able to celebrate Jack's success.

Mr Baines, joint managing director of Corporate Buying at Aldi, said: “Everyone at Aldi is extremely proud of all of the Team GB athletes and we’re thrilled to have seen one of our ambassadors win a gold medal.

"We absolutely wanted to do something to celebrate and turning one of our tills gold at Jack’s local store will help us and our customers celebrate this victory.”
