Firm cleans up and scales 
heights with £3m boost

One of the UK’s largest window-cleaning firms has secured £3m in growth capital from the Business Growth Fund (BGF), the £2.5bn fund backed by the main banks.

Nationwide Window Cleaning (NWC), which is based in Knaresborough, will use the investment to expand its fleet and equipment, and hire new staff in its abseiling and specialist cleaning divisions, where there is growing demand from the likes of the British Museum, the Royal Bank of Scotland and ASDA, which are exisiting clients.

The firm turns over nearly £10m annually and aims to increase revenue fivefold over the next seven years.

Managing director Thornton Tasker, who set the company up in 2009, said the firm had committed to the Government’s apprentice scheme.

“The NWC approach is to recruit skilled and committed employees, who we can offer ongoing training and development with excellent potential for career progression, actively promoting from within,” he said. NWC employs 200 staff around the UK, providing complex and simple cleaning services to universities, hospitals, large retailers and other commercial businesses.

Neil Inskip, senior investment manager for BGF, said: “In a relatively short amount of time, NWC has become an industry leader in a market with significant opportunities, making the business well placed to build on the number of existing contracts it manages.”
