Dragon selects tennis tweet

A Harrogate business is hoping the backing of former Dragons' Den star Theo Paphitis will help boost plans to expand its franchise network across the UK.

Matt McTurk, owner of Tennis Tots, which runs tennis play and coaching programmes for children aged two to six, tweeted a short description of his business to Mr Paphitis’s #SBS Small Business Sunday initiative.

The tweet said: “We inspire kids to love tennis & offer a great business model to fit with family life.”

It was one of just six that the retail magnate chose to re-tweet to his 500,000 followers, and Mr McTurk, a former professional tennis player who founded the business in 2008, said the response has been incredible.

“We’ve had lots of interest in the business since the re-tweet,” he said.

“We’re now hoping it will help us attract more instructors as we look to expand the franchise, as well as inspiring more youngsters to start playing tennis.

“With Britain’s recent Davis Cup win, it’s never been a better time to get kids involved in tennis!”

Mr McTurk has also been named as the coaching coordinator of the a major new multimillion-pound tennis centre currently being built at Harrogate High School.
