Nigel Adams MP welcomes Eat Out in Tadcaster

The Government project, launched last week, aims to give diners up to 50 per cent off their bills in restaurants, cafes and pubs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout August.

The scheme – part of the government’s Plan for Jobs hopes to spur the country’s economic recovery from coronavirus – applies to all food and non-alcoholic drinks, with a maximum discount per person of £10.

Mr Adams visited the Witty family, owners of The Roast Coffee Shop on Stutton Road in Tadcaster after the launch of the scheme.

Chris Witty said: “It’s been fantastic and it’s only been going for two days.

“We’ve had our busiest ever Tuesday since opening and I’d like to thank Rishi Sunak for the scheme.”

“Families can eat out for £20 and one of the best things for me is seeing people leaving the cafe with a smile on their face. We’ve all had a miserable few months and this is a great pick-me-up”.

More than 72,000 establishments are participating in total, including independent eateries and family favourites such as Pizza Express, Costa Coffee and Nando’s.

The MP added: “Having visited participating cafes and restaurants, I know the Eat Out To Help Out scheme is a boosting local businesses and protecting jobs across our hospitality sector, which has been hard hit by coronavirus – while allowing families to keep more money in their pockets.

“I encourage my constituents to enjoy summer safely by going out and supporting their local cafe, pub or restaurant with the government paying half the bill!”

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak said: “Our Eat Out to Help Out scheme’s number one aim is to help protect the jobs of 1.8 million chefs, waiters, pub owners and restaurateurs by boosting demand and getting customers through the door.”
