Independents win in Harrogate BID board elections

A statement to the Harrogate Advertiser from Nationwide states: “We’re committed to serving our members in Harrogate and we have no plans to change this. Branches are important to us and we know they remain a key part of the way our members like to deal with us. That’s why we’ve promised to not leave any town or city in which we are currently based without a branch until at least May 2021.

“It’s also why we are investing some £350 million over five years into our branch network – so that we can move with the times and serve our members on their terms. While this doesn’t mean we will never close a branch from time to time, we know our members value the personal service they offer and that’s why we’re committed to maintaining our branch network.”

A spokesperson for Santander also said the bank had no plans to close its Harrogate branch, which was fully refurbished in 2014.

The plans to close the town's TSB come from a major shake-up for the bank, which will see 81 other branches close across the country.

The Harrogate branch will close its doors next November.
