Baby Squids launches new swim school in Harrogate to help children build water confidence
A new swim school has launched in Harrogate, offering lessons designed to help babies, toddlers and pre-school children gain confidence in the water.
Baby Squids North Yorkshire is bringing adult and child swimming lessons to Harrogate, Leeds and York, with sessions starting at Ashville Sports Centre on Saturday, June 6.
The new franchise is being led by lifelong swim teacher and former lifesaving captain Alex Mazier, who says he is passionate about helping children avoid developing a fear of water later in life.
Alex, who began teaching swimming at the age of 16, has spent years coaching everyone from trainee lifeguards to elderly beginners.

Now, he is turning his attention to babies and young children aged from birth to five years old, with a focus on creating a calm and supportive environment for families.
Alex said: “My work with adults and older children taught me that early exposure isn't just a nice to have – it’s vital.
“I saw firsthand how aquaphobia develops when intervention comes too late.
"I decided I could have the biggest impact by working at the very beginning of someone’s journey, helping babies and toddlers foster a positive, joyful relationship with water before fear ever has a chance to set in."
Despite his years of experience in the pool, Alex admits he struggled with confidence in the water as a child himself.
He added: “I didn't start lessons until I was five and I was a very anxious child in the pool.
"I was much slower to develop than my peers who had started as babies.
"It took a truly kind, patient instructor to coax me away from the side and help me find my confidence.
"I want to be that teacher for families in North Yorkshire and provide a safe, calm environment where parents and children can bond while learning essential water confidence and life-saving skills."
Baby Squids is known for its child-led teaching style, using play, songs and parent interaction to help little ones feel comfortable and safe in the water.
