Writing About Art: Readers Day in Harrogate

A literary event organised by Mercer Art Gallery is bringing three bestselling novelists to Harrogate this Saturday.

Taking place at at the Old Swan Hotel from 10am to 4pm, Writing About Art: Reders’ Day will see Esther Freud, Patrick Gale and Michèle Roberts discussing the relationship between visual art and literature.

Hosted by Lara Goodband and John Wedgwood Clarke, the authors of a new Mercer Art Gallery publication called Writing About Art, it’s an exciting chance for art and book lovers to meet the authors and hear about their most recent novels, as well as asking a few questions - and all of it washed down with tea and coffee and a nice buffet lunch.

Esther Freud, who is probably best known for her first novel Hideous Kinky, includes Charles Rennie Macintosh as a major character in her latest book, Mr Mac and Me.

Patrick Gale, whose Richard and Judy bestseller Notes from an Exhibition explored the complex legacy of a Cornish artist, recently published the acclaimed A Place Called Winter.

Meanwhile Ignorance, the latest novel by Michèle Roberts, who was nominated for the Booker Prize for Daughters of the House, features a reclusive artist amongst its cast of characters.
