The Square’s cookery classes help charity

As popular an eaterie as The Square is, it also devotes a lot of attention to raising money for charity through its cookery school and its intrepid chef Darren Gladman.

The latest result of these endeavours at The Square Bar & Restaurant at 11 Princes Square is a cheque for more than £1000 for The Young Carers, a charity that supports and mentors young children in the area.

Darren came up with this fundraiser formula as he wanted to support a project that helped the local community.

Darren said: “I’ve always wanted to help local charities and with my cooking, I can do this.”

To that end he set up a series of events covering a variety of cookery and baking skills and included light refreshments and supper.

The series of demonstrations last year included a Christmas school all about Christmas dinner parties, with tips and recipe ideas.

And The Square has more demonstrations with Darren planned this year on the last Friday of each month.

A new format sees guests enjoying a three-course dinner and wine with Darren demonstrating how each dish is cooked and presented.

The nights will be themed around seasons, local produce and modern to traditional trends.
