Show your inner star in Harrogate Theatre’s The Big T contest

The fourth instalment of The Big T competition will take place next year and entries are now being invited from across the district for the audition stage.

The Big T has already got a reputation for being a variety show which is truly varied, rather than attracting singers alone. Musicians, comedians, dancers. jugglers, magicians, mime acts and singers all take to the stage in this highly-professional but friendly event.

In the past, taking part has transformed some of the contestants’ lives.

Last year’s winner, teenage singer-songwriter Alexa Wilkinson said: “Facing a full audience made me feel very nervous but I told myself you can do this, so I started, settled into my song, and really enjoyed being on stage.

“The Big T changed my life. I am doing gigs now and go to Leeds College of Music every Saturday.

“I’ve offered the organisers my help with the Big T 2016. I really want others to experience what I did.”

Entry to the auditions, which take place at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate in February and March, is open to anyone over the age of ten and there is no upper age limit.

Organised by Harrogate Theatre Supporters, all proceeds will be donated to improvements at the theatre.

Organiser Anne Cherry said: “It’s amazing how The Big T has grown since the first year.

“It’s far more than just a fundraiser now. It gives talent of all types a platform on the theatre’s magnificent main stage.”

The Big T’s high standards are always ensured by the theatre’s in-house staff and a judging panel which in the past has contained professional actors, soap stars and the Harrogate Advertiser’s Graham Chalmers. The Grand Final will take place on March 19 with prizes for the top three .

Audience voting will be part of the mix.
